Walkers & Rollators

Walkers and rollators are an aid for anyone with stability issues, including the elderly, disabled persons and people recovering from surgery or trauma to the legs, knees or ankles. They provide extra balance when walking, improving independence and safety.

Walkers

Traditionally, walkers have four legs which remain in contact with the ground; the user lifts the walker to move around. This provides good support but is less manoeuvrable. A walker is therefore often a better option for those with balance issues and need to have their weight fully supported.

Rollators

Where balance isn’t an issue, a rollator, with wheels, can be a better option. A rollator has wheels on the legs and brakes. As it doesn’t require lifting (as a walker does), a rollator can be more suitable for those with lifting difficulties (e.g. with weak arms or low strength). Rollators can also be useful where there is a need for carrying things (e.g. oxygen tanks or other necessities).

Accessories

Where a seat is included, this provides the extra advantage of a comfortable and safe space to sit down and rest when needed.
Options include lightweight and easy folding styles, as well heavy duty and off road options.
